Last reviewedOctober 19, 2026 ### Renewing an Arizona cosmetology license How often **Every two years, on your birthday**Your first license may be valid for less than two years: it expires on your second birthday. When to start **Up to 60 days before it expires**Renewal is not automatic, and the board can take up to 4 weeks to review it, so start early. Fee **$60 to renew; $30 if you renew late** Continuing education **Not required for a standard renewal**The board states this in its renewal FAQs. Required hours for other licenses may differ. If it lapses **It becomes inactive, and after 5 years it is suspended**To reactivate a license that has been inactive for more than 5 years you pay the delinquent fees, retake the exams and submit a new application. Moving to another compact state **A multistate compact option is available when you renew**It is for cosmetologists who live in Arizona and work part-time in other participating states.
