### Overview

Florida DBPR licenses and regulates people who provide or offer home-inspection services for compensation. Initial licensure combines approved education, an approved examination, background screening, and insurance obligations.

### Steps to obtain it

    #### Complete approved education
    
    Complete at least 120 hours in a department-approved course covering the eight home components identified by Florida law.

    #### Pass an approved examination
    
    Pass one of the written home-inspector examinations approved by DBPR and retain proof of the result.

    #### Apply and complete screening
    
    Submit HI 0401, the required education and examination evidence, and fingerprints through an FDLE-registered Livescan provider.

### Renewal and maintenance

Licenses expire July 31 of every even year. The current requirement is 14 CE hours—at least 2 hours of wind mitigation and 12 hours of approved home-inspection education—plus the renewal fee.
