You will also need to apply for your license with the state insurance department and register for the state licensing exam. Make sure to register for all 3 (prelicensing course, license application, state exam) using the personally identifiable information exactly as it appears on your government-issued ID. Discrepancies will delay the licensing process. (Note: Applicants for the Michigan Variable Life and Annuity producer license are only required to pass the state licensing exam and do not have to complete prelicensing education) 01 ### Step 1: Complete a prelicensing course that has been approved by the Department of Insurance. Once you have completed your course, EducUp will issue a certificate of completion which you may download and print from your online EducUp account. Your results will be transmitted by EducUp to the state within 2 business days. The certificate of completion is valid for 1 year. 02 ### Step 2: Schedule your exam with your state’s testing provider, PSI Exams ( https://candidate.psiexams.com/index.jsp ). The fastest way to schedule your exam is to do so online at PSI Exams or call (855) 579-4639. Your exam must be taken at a physical PSI examination center. To change or cancel your testing appointment, you must contact PSI Exams at least 48 hours in advance or forfeit the examination fee. IMPORTANT: When you register for EducUp prelicensing courses, schedule your license exam, and/or apply for your license it is important to use the same name that appears on the identification forms you plan to present at the time of your testing appointment. NOTE: You must complete your prelicensing course and receive your certificate of completion before taking the state exam. If you take the state exam before you have completed prelicensing education your exam results will be invalidated, and you will have to retake it. 03 ### Step 3: Take and pass your state licensing exam. On the day of your appointment, you must bring with you two valid forms of government-issued identification (driver’s license, passport, military I.D., etc.) one of which must contain a photograph and a signature. You will not be able to take your exam if these requirements are not met. There will be restrictions on what you may bring with you to the testing center, into the testing room, and what you may wear will be enforced. For more detailed information about the security measures that will be taken during your testing appointment, please read and review the candidate bulletin offered at PSI Exams ( ). Your results will be given to you immediately following the exam. If you do not pass you will receive a diagnostic report indicating your strengths and weaknesses. 04 ### Step 4: Apply for your license. Michigan resident applicants must use the online application service at NIPR ( ). 05 ### Step 5: Maintain your license by being aware of your continuing education requirements. Most insurance licenses must be maintained by completing a certain number of credit hours of continuing education each licensing period.
