# Colorado barber license requirements

Colorado's Division of Professions and Occupations requires 1,500 contact hours or 50 credit hours in an approved barber program, with state written and practical examinations.

## Credential requirements

### Colorado Barber license.

1.  #### Education
    
    Complete an approved barber curriculum of 50 credit hours or 1,500 contact hours. An approved school, qualifying internship or approved apprenticeship may deliver the training; the current rule does not state one universal apprentice-hour total.
    
2.  #### Exam
    
    Pass the Colorado barber written and practical examinations through the Division's approved examination process.
    
3.  #### Experience
    
    Apprentices and interns must follow the approved supervised program. The ordinary school route has no post-school period. Colorado's separate endorsement rule may credit documented out-of-state licensee work against missing training under a five-to-one work-hour formula when at least 65 percent of the training was completed; that is not the entry route.
    
4.  #### Application
    
    Apply to the Division or its examination vendor with education or apprenticeship records, identity documents and fees, then complete the license application after examination eligibility.
    

**Good to know:** The 4 CCR 731-1 rule lists hair and scalp care, facial treatment, shaving, cutting, styling, chemical services, sanitation, law and ethics. Confirm the approved apprenticeship plan's exact schedule before enrollment.
