# Colorado associate broker license

Colorado is a broker-only entry state: the initial credential is an associate broker license. The Colorado Real Estate Manual sets a 168-hour qualifying curriculum, followed by the broker examination, fingerprints/background review and an employing-broker relationship.

## Credential requirements

### Associate broker license (entry-level broker); applicants must meet Colorado age, education and character requirements and must use an employing broker for active practice.

1.  #### Education
    
    Complete 168 hours: 48 Law and Practice, 48 Contracts, 24 Closings, 8 Trust Accounts and Records, 8 Current Legal Issues and 32 Practical Applications. An employing-broker upgrade has an additional 24-hour Brokerage Administration course.
    
2.  #### Exam
    
    Pass the Colorado broker examination, including the national and Colorado portions required by the current testing bulletin.
    
3.  #### Experience
    
    No prior experience is required for the entry associate-broker license. Employing and higher broker roles have separate experience, education and supervision requirements.
    
4.  #### Application
    
    Apply to the Colorado Division of Real Estate with the education and examination records, fees, fingerprints/background information and the employing-broker documentation needed for an active license.
    

**Good to know:** Colorado's current manual is the controlling course reference; schools and the testing vendor can update delivery and examination instructions.
