# Georgia barber license requirements

Georgia offers a full Master Barber credential through a 1,500-hour school program or 3,000-hour supervised apprenticeship, and a narrower Barber II credential through 1,140 school hours or 2,280 apprentice hours. Both routes require Georgia written and practical examinations through PSI.

## 2 credential pathways

Each credential below has its own requirements. Pick the one that matches the work you plan to do.

### Georgia Master Barber license.

1.  #### Education
    
    Be at least 16, hold a high-school diploma, GED or postsecondary credential, and complete either 1,500 credit hours at a Board-approved school over at least nine months or 3,000 apprentice hours over at least 18 months under a licensed master barber. School and apprentice hours cannot be combined.
    
2.  #### Exam
    
    After Board eligibility, pass the Georgia-approved written or theory and practical examinations through PSI. A barber apprentice licensed after July 1, 2019 must complete the theory portion within the first 12 months of the apprenticeship; the final application requires passed written and practical results.
    
3.  #### Experience
    
    Apprentices train under direct supervision of the registered master barber, with daily or weekly hour records and the required 18-month minimum. School graduates have no separate post-school employment period for the initial Master Barber license.
    
4.  #### Application
    
    Apply through the Georgia Secretary of State GOALS portal after passing the examinations with a completed, signed and notarized application, fee, education or apprenticeship proof, passed practical and written score reports, secure-and-verifiable identity document, citizenship affidavit and immigration documents when applicable.
    

**Good to know:** Master Barber is the full barber credential. Georgia also maintains a separate Barber II level with a shorter curriculum and narrower authorization.

### Georgia Barber II license.

1.  #### Education
    
    Complete either 1,140 credit hours at a Board-approved school over at least seven months or 2,280 apprentice hours over at least 14 months under direct supervision of a licensed master barber. School and apprentice hours cannot be combined.
    
2.  #### Exam
    
    Pass the Georgia-approved written or theory and practical examinations through PSI. An apprentice licensed after July 1, 2019 must complete the theory portion within the first 12 months; submit both passed examination results with the Barber II application.
    
3.  #### Experience
    
    Apprentices train under the registered master barber's direct supervision for at least 14 months and maintain the Board records. The school route has no separate post-school work requirement.
    
4.  #### Application
    
    Apply through GOALS with a completed, signed and notarized Barber II application, fee, education or apprenticeship proof, passed written and practical score reports, secure-and-verifiable identity document, citizenship affidavit and immigration documents when applicable.
    

**Good to know:** Barber II is a distinct, narrower credential and does not equal the full Master Barber authorization. Use the current Georgia scope rules before offering services.
