# Maryland real estate salesperson license

Maryland's entry salesperson process requires a 60-hour approved course, the PSI national and state examination, an online license application within one year and brokerage affiliation for active status.

## Credential requirements

### Salesperson license; the applicant must be at least 18, be of good character and reputation, and obtain a broker commitment for affiliation when the license is granted.

1.  #### Education
    
    Complete the 60-hour prelicensing course with a Maryland-approved education provider.
    
2.  #### Exam
    
    Pass both national and Maryland state portions of the PSI examination with at least 70 percent on each portion. Examination results must be used within the Commission's one-year application period.
    
3.  #### Experience
    
    No prior real estate experience is required for a salesperson. A Maryland broker route requires at least three consecutive active years and a separate 135-hour broker course.
    
4.  #### Application
    
    After passing, follow the Commission's online registration/application instructions, pay the current fee and affiliate immediately with a broker for active status, or place the license inactive and affiliate within the Commission's allowed period. Convictions are reviewed case by case.
    

**Good to know:** Maryland's FAQ says the Commission sends registration and application instructions 5–7 business days after both exam portions are passed; verify the current online workflow.
