# Nevada cosmetologist license

Nevada requires age 18, tenth grade or equivalent, good moral character and one of 1,600 school hours, four years of out-of-state practice or 3,200 apprentice hours, followed by examination.

Statewide license Reviewed October 2, 2026

## Credential requirements

### Nevada cosmetologist license

1. #### Education

Complete 1,600 hours in a Board-approved school or 3,200 hours as a cosmetologist apprentice in a licensed establishment. Four years of documented out-of-state practice is an alternative for qualifying applicants.

2. #### Exam

Pass the Nevada cosmetology theory and practical examinations, including the Nevada laws and regulations component required by the Board and current candidate information.

3. #### Experience

Be at least 18, have completed tenth grade or equivalent and be of good moral character. Four years of documented practice outside Nevada may substitute for the school route when the Board accepts it.

4. #### Application

Submit the Nevada State Board of Cosmetology application and fee with transcript or apprentice record, examination results, identity, education and good-moral-character disclosures.

**Good to know:** Nevada has separate hair designer, advanced esthetician, esthetician, nail technologist and hair braider credentials; the cosmetologist license is the broad credential.
