# Ohio CPA license

Ohio's current law, effective January 1, 2026, uses the degree type to set the experience requirement. Bookkeeping and non-CPA accounting do not confer a CPA license.

## 2 credential pathways

Each credential below has its own requirements. Pick the one that matches the work you plan to do.

### Ohio CPA certificate: bachelor's degree route effective January 1, 2026.

1.  #### Education
    
    Hold a bachelor's degree with an accounting concentration and related business courses; Ohio's rule specifies at least 30 semester credits in accounting and 24 in business, and the current statute does not impose a universal 150-hour total.
    
2.  #### Exam
    
    Pass the Uniform CPA Examination and complete the Ohio professional standards and responsibilities course required before application.
    
3.  #### Experience
    
    Complete two years of qualifying experience in public practice, government, business, or academia under Ohio's rules.
    
4.  #### Application
    
    Apply to the Accountancy Board with official transcripts, exam record, the professional-standards course, criminal-record check, experience verification, and required disclosures.
