# South Carolina CPA license

South Carolina has three licensure pathways effective June 30, 2025 and extended the exam window to 36 months. Ordinary bookkeeping and non-CPA accounting are not a CPA license.

## 3 credential pathways

Each credential below has its own requirements. Pick the one that matches the work you plan to do.

### South Carolina CPA license: bachelor's degree plus 150 hours and one year.

1.  #### Education
    
    Hold a bachelor's degree, complete at least 150 semester hours, and meet the South Carolina accounting and business coursework requirements.
    
2.  #### Exam
    
    Pass all sections of the Uniform CPA Examination; South Carolina's 2025 law extends the exam window to 36 months and the cited change notice does not add a separate initial ethics exam.
    
3.  #### Experience
    
    Complete one year of qualifying accounting experience under the Board's accepted categories and direct-supervision/verification rules.
    
4.  #### Application
    
    Apply to the South Carolina Board with official transcripts, exam record, experience package, and the Board's character/background disclosures.
    

### South Carolina CPA license: master's degree or higher and one year.
