# Utah real estate sales agent license

Utah's entry credential is a sales agent license. The licensing rule requires 120 hours of approved education, both examination components, a background check/fingerprints and affiliation with a principal broker.

Statewide license Reviewed October 2, 2026

## Credential requirements

### Sales agent license; applicant must be at least 18, have a high school diploma, GED or approved equivalent, satisfy honesty/competency rules and affiliate with a principal broker for active practice.

1. #### Education

Complete 120 hours of approved Utah sales-agent prelicense education, unless the Division grants a statutory education waiver or equivalent-education credit.

2. #### Exam

Apply with the designated testing service and pass both the national and Utah state components of the licensing examination.

3. #### Experience

No prior experience is required for a sales agent. Utah broker applicants later need documented experience points and additional broker education.

4. #### Application

Submit the Division application, education and examination records, legal-presence/identity materials, fees and the required consent/fingerprint background check; affiliate with a principal broker for an active license and enroll in RAP Back as directed.

**Good to know:** Utah requires a 12-hour new-agent course during the first renewal cycle; that is post-license education, not part of the 120-hour entry course.
